Desert meets the sea

In Baja California, a journey can turn into an adventure. When you think of this area, you immediately imagine Cabo San Lucas, a playground for tourists and movie stars.
What few people know is that, beyond sport fishing, golf and nightlife, there are uncontaminated desert stretches. It is a place John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts turned into a legend in their famous chronicles from the Sea of Cortez.

Discovering The Baja California Desert

Just South of the Mexican border, the Sonora desert stretches South, meeting the Sea of Cortez all along the coast.
Water springs and the remote oases provide relief to those who are about to cross its arid landscape of cactus and mountains, bounded by coastal wetlands and an ocean that joins the wildlife.
Similar to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, the rich biodiversity of Baja California derives from the isolation of the islands of the Gulf and the remote areas of the peninsula, where evolution has produced unique and endemic species.
Thousands of miles of wild and uninhabited desert, hundreds of pristine white sand beaches, endless crystal-clear waters that are home to a great multitude of marine life- this is Baja California.

Baja California, Between Small Villages And Extreme Places

The territory is varied; By crossing it you may stumble into small villages inhabited by a few hundred people and more extreme areas in the Rancho region, where the rhythms of life are still ruled by the passing of time as it happened hundreds of years ago.
The rugged nature of this territory has been a challenge for whoever tried to live there or cross it, from the earliest natives to the 1700s missionaries-and still is today.

Despite being all mapped and just a click away, a trip to Baja California still has the taste of the real adventure.
